Rocky Mountain Self Defense & Fitness of Castle Rock, Colorado has wanted to give back to the community for quite some time now and we were never sure what charity to support until now. In light of tragic events that happened in recent months in 2014 in the Douglas County community with our teenagers, RMSDF has decided to support the Second Wind Fund with a 20 minute cross fit workout on May 10th, Saturday.

The Second Wind Fund (www.thesecondwindfund.org) is a charity that you may not have heard of and the reason for this is because they work behind the scenes. While children and youth receive needed treatment services, they may never be aware of who provided those services for them.  Second Wind Fund’s mission is to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and youth by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment.  If a family cannot afford the needed counseling the Second Wind Fund steps in to offer fast, high quality treatment services to children and youth who would not otherwise receive counseling.  When a mental health professional deems a child or youth 19 and under at risk for suicide and there is no other access to care, they can refer a youth to Second Wind Fund. A list of qualified professionals in their area is provided so that the youth can get the treatment he/she needs as soon as possible, and up to 12 sessions will be paid for by Second Wind Fund . Most referrals come via the school but for those that are homeschooled the referral can be made via a doctor as well.

We also chose this fund to support as we feel it ties in well with the philosophy at RMSDF. Studies show that fitness and physical activity can help to alleviate depression and boost self-confidence and self-esteem.

Second Wind Fund provides professional counseling to children and youth at risk of suicide who have no other access to such care.  They offer the highest quality of treatment services to children and youth who would otherwise not receive services.  They provide services to various counties in Colorado including Douglas County.  Your money goes directly to the services provided and you are helping with the solution not the problem.  For more information visit their website at www.thesecondwindfund.org    REGISTER You will be redirected to our Zen Planner Member Site

The WOD:

As many rounds and reps as possible in  20 minutes of:

1 round consist of:

400 meter run

5 knees to elbows

10 push ups

15 body weight squats

This workout is sure to get you sweating.  All moves can be modified based on your abilities-anyone can do this workout!  Get others to sponsor you and/or $25 minimum donation. Make check payable to: The Second Wind Fund.

Three time slots to choose from:  9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.

Prizes for person with most sponsors, most money raised, and drawing winners

Event Schedule  

Friday-9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. (waiver signed at this time.  If you are under 18 years old you need a parent with you to sign the waiver) and entry bag pick up.

Saturday-sign in at least 30 minutes prior to your time slot for the workout if you did not register on Friday.

Richard Eveleigh, Executive Director of Second Wind Fund will speak prior to the event (8:15 a.m.)

Warm up 8:30/9:30/ 10:30 (outside if weather permits)

Everyone moves to station areas to begin workout:  8:45/9:45/10:45

Dynamic stretching: 8:45/9:45/10:45

Demonstration of the workout: 8:55/9:55/10:55

Twenty minute workout 9:00/10:00/11:00

Cool Down

Socialize and snacks and beverages: hopefully outside if weather permits

Small towel (yes you will sweat and get a great total body workout in just 20 minutes!)

Parking

No Parking in Rocky Mountain Self Defense and Fitness parking lot on day of event. Carpooling is encouraged.  Park on surrounding streets .
