NAME: Mike Rapone
FAVORITE SELF DEFENSE TECHNIQUE: Choke from behind against a wall. I like this defense because after you address the danger you might have the option of smashing the attacker’s face against the wall. Brutal, effective and awesome at the same time!
FAVORITE THING TO DO OUTSIDE OF CLASS : Spending time with my lovely wife, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and spending time with my 3 granddaughters.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU TRAIN AT RMSDF? : Two to three times a week.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO COME TO CLASS? : The fact that I’m doing something that a lot of 55 year olds don’t do or can’t do.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?: My main Krav goal is to do it as long as I possibly can. I believe moving up a level or two are attainable goals with continued hard work and dedication.
WHY DO YOU CHOSE RMSDF?: I never heard of Krav Maga prior to a year and a half ago. I Googled self defense and RMSDF appeared in the search results and as they say “the rest is history”. We are all damn lucky that John is our instructor! Simply the best!!!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NEW MEMBERS COMING INTO THE GYM FOR THE FIRST TIME?: “Slow Equals Smooth and Smooth Equals Fast” and “Practice Makes Permanent” both preached by John! I would also tell them to not be intimidated, ask questions, and be thankful that we have this great gym to attend.
